Multi-wavelength observations and modelling of the dust disc and envelope

چکیده
Context. Circumstellar discs are expected to be the nursery of planets. Grain growth within such discs is the first step in the planet formation process. The Bok globule CB 26 harbours such a young disc. Aims. We present a detailed model of the edge-on circumstellar disc and its envelope in the Bok globule CB 26. Methods. The model is based on HST near-infrared maps in the I, J, H, and K bands, OVRO and SMA radio maps at 1.1mm, 1.3mm and 2.7mm, and the spectral energy distribution (SED) from 0.9μm to 3mm. New photometric and spectroscopic data from the Spitzer Space Telescope and the Caltech Submilimeter Observatory have been obtained and are part of our analysis. Using the self-consistent radiative transfer code MC3D, the model we construct is able to discriminate parameter sets and dust properties of both its parts, namely envelope and disc. Results. We find that the disc has an inner hole with a radius of 45 ± 5AU. Based on a dust model including silicate and graphite the maximum grain size needed to reproduce the spectral millimetre index is 2.5μm. Features seen in the near-infrared images, dominated by scattered light, can be described as a result of a rotating envelope. Conclusions. Successful employment of ISM dust in both the disc and envelope hint that grain growth may not yet play a significant role for the appearance of this system. A larger inner hole gives rise to the assumption that CB 26 is a circumbinary disc.

Resolving the hot dust around HD 69830 and η Corvi with MIDI and VISIR
Aims. Most of the known debris discs exhibit cool dust in regions analogous to the Edgeworth-Kuiper Belt. However, a rare subset show hot excess from within a few AU, which moreover is often inferred to be transient from models for planetesimal belt evolution. In this paper we examine 2 such sources to place limits on their location to help distinguish between different interpretations for thei...
متن کاملThe circumstellar disc around the Herbig AeBe star HD169142
We present 7 mm and 3.5 cm wavelength continuum observations toward the Herbig AeBe star HD169142 performed with the Very Large Array (VLA) with an angular resolution of ≃ 1. We find that this object exhibits strong (≃ 4.4 mJy), unresolved (. 1) 7 mm continuum emission, being one of the brightest isolated Herbig AeBe stars ever detected with the VLA at this wavelength. No emission is detected a...
متن کاملOn the Nature of BL Lac Objects
The BL Lacertae objects, or BL Lacs, have multi-wavelength continua dominated by non-thermal emission from a relativistic jet, and are characterised by a lack of optical emission lines. We find, through observations and modelling that the dominant factor in a source being called a BL Lac is the intrinsic lack of flux from the broad-line region – likely connected with a weak accretion disc – rat...
متن کاملNew constraints on the dust surrounding HR 4796A
Context. HR 4796A is surrounded by a well-structured and very bright circumstellar disc shaped like an annulus with many interesting features: very sharp inner and outer edges, brightness asymmetries, centre offset, and suspected distortions in the ring. Aims. We aim to constrain the properties of the dust surrounding the star HR 4796A, in particular the grain size and composition. We also want...
